On entering the hotel room,
she seized the dress
(purchased on his plastic
at the airport boutique)
and slipped with surprising
nonchalance
into the bathroom

When she turned to face herself
in the bathroom mirror,
she knew,
however,
she would have to practice
a degree of deception.
